Namibia is a large country (20 times the size of The Netherlands for instance) and the possibilities are numerous. You can hire a normal car or a 4x4 camper. You can book at one of the big operators in Europe or Africa or book at a small local safari operator. You can go camping or lodging.  You can…. Well, on this page we want to give you some ideas and useful links to help you on your way to Namibia.

Tour operators

In the past I visited VakantieXperts  (in cities all around The Netherlands with Bussum being my favorite) quite some times. Their staff is friendly and helpful, they can book at most of the bigger operators, take care of your flight reservations, book a car and probably a lot more. On the net you can take a look at Online Safari-advies, a Dutch operator by experience.

If you are looking for a more adventurous trip, you might want to take a look at the website of The Safaris Boys. This is a South African operator, small and specialized in tailor-made travels through Southern Africa. Another very interesting operator is Pride of Africa; a Namibian operator specialized in tented camps for groups from about every size. They offer normal and de luxe accommodation and can take you everywhere in Namibia, Botswana and/or South Africa.

Driving around

There are too many car rental companies to name them all. And the choice becomes more difficult with so much to choose from. Bobo Campers (Johannesburg, Cape town and Windhoek) is a very good choice. They offer normal campers but also 4x4 campers. And you can book group travels with them.

Of course you can also do Namibia another way: book a bicycle trip.  Silverburg offers a great trip through Namibia and one of the great things of doing Namibia this way is that you are very close to nature.  And the food is good!

Accommodation

Once again: so many options. Namibia has communal campsites and the most de luxe lodges. And of course everything in between.

Near Etosha are two lodges with a campsite that are very good: Etosha Safari Camp near Anderson Gate and Onguma near Von Lindequist gate.

Near Sossusvlei you can try Zebra River Lodge, located next to a canyon, great for hiking trips. In Maltahohe you will find Atelier du Desert, small but nice and Genevieve knows how to spoil your appetite.

Outside of Windhoek (heading for Hosea Kutako) is N/a'an kuse Lodge. Not just a lodge but state of the art and more than that, they do a lot of good work on the San-people and wild animals. Definitely worth a visit!

Food and drinks

In most lodges you can drop in and have a nice meal. Many lodges offer buffet for dinner and a la carte for lunch. Being in Windhoek your choice is wider. Almost everybody goes to Joe’s Beerhouse but if you want something quieter you can try The Café Zoo Parc, located in the town centre underneath one of the biggest rubber trees you will ever see.

The Grapevine in Swakopmund is a good choice in town, offering very good food in a European/African style. You can have a small wine tasting which is fun.

In Walvisbay you will find an extremely good restaurant, probably one of the best in Namibia:   Le Lyon des Sables, Superior food, good wines and liquors, nice staff and located in an old church.
